The good news: thinning caught early is the easiest to hold. Daily minoxidil keeps most people where they are, and month six is when you see it working.

    What decides your pace.

    i.

    Your genes

Pattern hair loss is mostly inherited, from both sides of the family. The more close relatives with it, the more likely it moves faster.

    ii.

    DHT

A hormone made from testosterone. In people who are prone to it, DHT slowly shrinks hair follicles until they stop producing thick hair.

    iii.

    Time

It usually progresses in stages over years. The earlier you start treating it, the more hair there is to keep.

    Hold your hairline.

Twice a day, every day. Most people see a difference between months four and six.

    Questions

It’s a rough guide based on the usual patterns of male hair loss: younger age, more affected relatives and recent change all tend to mean a faster pace. It isn’t a diagnosis.

They follow the Norwood scale doctors use for male pattern hair loss, from 1 (no real loss) to 7 (hair at the sides and back only).

It works best at keeping what you have, and many people regrow some hair, especially at the crown. Starting earlier gives it more to work with.

Some shedding in the first two months is normal. Month six is the first fair comparison, which is why our 12-month pack comes with the 6-month promise.
